After completing her presentations on the review of the literature, Dr. Robin Yabroff described the results of a cancer control simulation conducted by the Lombardi Cancer Center at Georgetown University. The simulation modeled the natural history of cervical carcinogenesis. The simulation suggested that reducing cervical cancer incidence and mortality could best be achieved by investing in HPV prevention; investing in screening in areas with pockets of underscreened women; and improving the quality of Pap smears, screening more often or applying a better screening test.
