Dr. Susan DesHarnais of the American College of Surgeons (ACoS) reviewed issues related to access to care and treatment patterns in terms of the National Cancer Data Base (NCDB). Data from the American Hospital Association (AHA) show that hospitals approved by ACoS comprise 25% of all AHA hospitals. Dr. DesHarnais examined the distribution of hospitals per state with approved cancer programs. Additionally, Dr. DesHarnais provided information on treatment patterns for women diagnosed with cancer of the cervix by insurance status and stage at diagnosis as well as ethnicity and stage of disease at diagnosis.
